It's funny how people, when faced with a challenge, pull together, and find solutions in the best way possible.
It's also funny how I, when faced with a challenge, start ranting and raving, and wondering what the fuck I'm going to do.
Because our server dates back to 1997 (Dual Pentium Pro 200, 128meg of ram, rapido!) and the fact that it's failing more and more every day, a program that relies on the server for storing it's data didn't want to play nicely. So, I toddle off to a classroom and pull out a nice new Compaq Evo workstation, running XP. And I install the software on that, to use it as a server. As a result, my office now looks like a NASA
control room, and there are 3 workstations on my desk, monitors and cables everywhere. So now, when I read the BOFH
stories and see lines like "the boss rolls into Mission Control" I can raise a chuckle.
Testing... And my little kludge has worked! Yay!
So, I'm in a semi good mood, watch some twat go and spoil it this afternoon. s/twat/Simon. >:-)
I'm thinking of restarting the radio shows up again. Not sure where, and I'm not sure what I'll do, music, some form of chat, the usual brand of sarcastic wit. Suggestions please, what do you want to hear, and am I being stupid?
Thanks to Alty, I now own an account on the SomethingAwful
forums. It's.... overwhelming. There's film/tv series torrents, mp3s, the odd smattering of porn. And theres discussions on any topic you can think of. I did get flamed by some cocksucker in my first thread, but I think it was his time of the month. All the other users came to my defence. So, the community is pretty helpful. Well worth $9.95 a year.
Afternoons are beginning to drag on again, it does my head in. How can the morning go so quick and the afternoon so slowly? Have I violated some fundamental law of physics? It's insane.
Back to eating my lunch....
